Great Quest Discovers New Gold Mineralization in the Bourdala Concessions
VANCOUVER, BC - Willis W. Osborne, President of Great Quest Metals Ltd. (TSXV: GQ), is pleased to announce that recent exploration surveys in the TD area, Bourdala concessions, western Mali, West Africa, have resulted in the expansion of gold mineralization in Birimian metasediments on either side of a 25- to 50-metre wide diorite dyke.
An east-west trench, 70 metres long and four metres deep, was dug across the diorite dyke. It was started just west of the five-metre-wide pit under which drill hole TD 02-02 (drilled in 2002) intersected 5.5 metres of 2.91 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 12.1 to 17.6 metres and 7.0 metres of 4.34 g/t gold from 62.8 to 69.8 metres. This second intersection was directly under the pit. A second, 4.96-metre-wide, pit is located 22.87 metres east of the first one. These two pits, possibly as old as 150 years, are very deep and have since been filled in. Samples one metre in length taken from Birimian metasediments between the two pits averaged 370 parts per billion (ppb) gold. No samples were taken from the material in the old pits where presumably the orpailleurs (local hand miners) found higher-grade gold.
The trench continues for 55 metres east of the pits, through saprolite derived from diorite. It is south of this section and just east of the dyke where more than 1,500 women orpailleurs worked the surface over an area of up to 50 by 350 metres earlier this year. One pit, just north of the trench, was dug and sampled as part of the current program. Three samples from schist along the diorite at the bottom of this 14-metre-deep pit averaged 1,178 ppb gold. The difference in values between samples taken at depths of four metres in the trench and those at 14 metres could indicate leaching of gold at near surface.
Great Quest's immediate plans are to continue extending the trench to the east, through a 40-metre-wide area of ancient orpaillage. Sampling will continue and a number of deeper pits will be dug along the trench to further define drill targets. Areas of orpaillage in the district continue to be of particular interest as they have been the sites of extensive gold exploration and discovery, including the Sadiola, Tabakoto and Segala gold deposits.
