Overview

The Kabaya 1 area was remapped in early 2006 and several new potential zones were identified. The following describes the more notable results of the soil sampling and drilling programs.

  • Fourteen soil samples taken over 100 metres of a previously identified north-south diorite dyke yielded an average of 1,386 parts per billion (ppb) gold per sample. The zone was not intersected in drilling from the west, so it will be drilled from the east during the next program.

  • Seven samples taken along a second north-south diorite dyke in the southeastern part of the area showed an average of 3,562 parts per billion gold per sample. This zone was traced for 350 metres and appears open to the north.

  • Drilling at the Konate zone, an occurrence of quartz veins, quartz-breccia and quartz stringers that has been traced for 600 metres, intersected anomalous gold. A second similar zone was identified northeast of Konate, striking north.

  • Assays from a narrow northeasterly quartz vein in the northern part of the area ranged from 11 to 55,670 ppb gold.

  • Several other anomalous gold values, ranging from 34 to 8,150 ppb gold, occur in soil along what could be an as yet unidentified fault.
